Gold and Silver Rise as U.S. Stocks Close Mixed Amid Tariffs
International gold and silver prices rose on Friday, despite mixed results for U.S. stocks.
The New York Mercantile Exchange saw gold futures for August delivery increase by 0.51% to settle at $4,070.80 per ounce, while silver futures for September delivery gained 1.47% to close at $58.906 per ounce.
U.S. stocks closed mixed on Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising 0.46% to 51,947.25 and the Standard and Poor's 500 adding 0.05% to 7,411.98. However, the Nasdaq Composite Index shed 0.64% to 24,975.82.
The U.S. imposed tariffs of 10-12.5% on imported goods from dozens of economies starting Friday, citing Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974. The new trade measures took effect just as temporary 10% worldwide tariffs expired at 12:01.
