India's gold demand declined by 6% in Q2 to 131.4 tonnes, but the value of purchases reached a record Rs 1,98,100 crore due to elevated prices.

The World Gold Council (WGC) expects festive and wedding season demand to support the market, despite potential headwinds from high prices and a weak monsoon.

Jewellery demand fell 15% year-on-year to 75.1 tonnes, while bar and coin demand increased 9% to 50.3 tonnes.
