Gold Demand Sees Slight Growth Despite Price Volatility
The World Gold Council released its 'Global Gold Demand Trends Report' for Q2 2026 on July 30. According to the report, global gold demand remained flat year-on-year in the second quarter at 1,269 tons.
However, looking at the first half of 2026, total global gold demand increased by 2% year-on-year, reaching 2,522 tons. This corresponds to a market size of approximately $380 billion.
The slight positive growth in demand during the first half reflects the supporting role of gold in multi-asset allocation and physical consumption, offsetting the impact of phased price fluctuations.
Investment demand cooled significantly in Q2, with total investment demand for global gold ETFs, bars, and coins falling to 262 tons. Net outflows from global gold ETFs reached 45 tons for the quarter.
The environment of volatile and declining prices reduced the willingness of short-term capital to enter the market, dragging down overall investment demand performance.
