Gold Dips Silver Surges in India Amid Global Market Volatility
On October 5, gold and silver prices experienced significant volatility amid a global share market downturn driven by rising crude oil prices and inflation. While crude oil's recent decline provided some relief to precious metals, the overall market remained uncertain. In the international market, gold prices rose slightly by 0.06%, reaching USD 1,964.80 per ounce, while silver prices climbed 1.46% to USD 61.30 per ounce.
In India, however, the domestic market showed a different trend. Gold prices dropped sharply, opening around Rs 1.49 lakh per 10 grams, while silver prices surged to approximately Rs 2.26 lakh per kilogram. The disparity between international and domestic prices highlights the impact of local market dynamics.
According to commodity expert Ajay Kedia, gold's rise was supported by a softer-than-expected US inflation report, which reduced the likelihood of a Federal Reserve rate hike in October. The market-implied probability of an October hike fell to 37%, though expectations for a December increase remained high at 89%. Meanwhile, silver prices remained firm in the domestic market, trading at around Rs 2,26,770 per kilogram.
For buyers, the fluctuating prices underscore the importance of checking the latest rates before making purchases. In key Indian cities, 24-carat gold prices ranged from Rs 1,49,170 to Rs 1,49,320 per 10 grams, while silver prices varied between Rs 2,34,900 and Rs 2,44,900 per kilogram. As global uncertainty continues, investors are advised to stay informed about these volatile trends.
