Gold Edges Higher Amid Dollar-Debasement Fears and Fed Anticipation
Gold prices drifted higher on Thursday as concerns about currency debasement and the US budget deficit persisted. According to Kelvin Wong, a senior market analyst at OANDA, these factors remain supportive of gold in the medium term.
The price of spot gold rose by 0.8% to $4,630.09 per ounce, while US gold futures increased by 0.7% to $4,685.50. The dollar-debasement narrative, sparked by the US Treasury's expansion of purchases of older long-dated bonds, has driven up gold prices.
Markets are now focused on Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's upcoming remarks at the Jackson Hole symposium in Wyoming. His speech is expected to provide greater clarity on how the Fed will navigate the current economic landscape and could influence market expectations for interest rate hikes.
