Gold Market Steadies as Investors Bet on Prolonged High Interest Rates
The gold market has steadied as investors reassess the likelihood of prolonged high interest rates. According to recent data, spot gold held firm at $4,356.92 per ounce, while US gold futures for December delivery rose 0.4 percent to $4,394.90.
The Federal Reserve's decision last week to raise its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points to a range between 3.75 and four percent has had a significant impact on the market. This move signals the possibility of another increase before the end of the year, which could further reduce gold's appeal as an inflation hedge.
Others in the precious metals market also showed some stability, with spot silver rising 0.4 percent to $67.37 per ounce, platinum climbing 0.3 percent to $1,837.80, and palladium gaining 0.3 percent to $1,311.40.
