Gold Outpacing Silver as Economic Concerns Mount
Gold and silver prices have been on an upward trajectory in recent weeks after crashing earlier this year. Both metals had reached record highs in January but plummeted following the announcement of Kevin Warsh as President Trump's nominee for Fed chair.
The gold-silver ratio, which measures the price difference between the two metals, currently stands at about 67, with gold trading around $4,400 per ounce and silver at $66. Historically, this ratio has tended to rise when investors are concerned about the economy, making gold a more attractive safe-haven asset.
Investors tracking the price of gold through the SPDR Gold Shares fund (NYSEMKT: GLD) may find it an attractive option for diversifying their portfolios. The fund is up just 2% this year but has been rising in tandem with gold's recent increase.
