Gold Price Forecast Sees $5,000 Target by Mid-2027

Gold prices may be on their way to $5,000 an ounce by the first half of 2027 according to UBS strategists. Despite current challenges from elevated opportunity costs, they believe declining real interest rates, a softer dollar, and sustained central bank buying will drive gold back up.

The Swiss lender notes that bullion has cleared its prior $100 trading band, climbing above the $4,250 resistance mark for the first time in two months. This move is partly due to reported Chinese institutional purchases and inflows into gold-backed exchange-traded funds, as well as U.S.-Japan efforts to stabilize the yen.

UBS cautions that immediate dangers persist, particularly if American economic data remains resilient or traders continue to anticipate a more aggressive Federal Reserve stance. However, they maintain that the medium- and long-term outlook for gold is underpinned by lasting factors such as inflation easing gradually, allowing the Fed to keep rates unchanged this year before pivoting to cuts in 2027.

The weakening greenback and persistent diversification trends serve as powerful medium-term supports. Official-sector buying continues to act as a solid floor under prices, with central banks acquiring 289 tonnes of gold in the second quarter and projected full-year purchases ranging between 750 and 1,000 tonnes.
