The price of gold in Bangladesh has surged to a new high after the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) raised its rate by Tk 9,856 per bhori. This brings the price of 22-karat gold to Tk 232,930 per bhori, inclusive of VAT.

This adjustment took effect from 10am on August 6, according to a notification issued by Bajus. The new rates also apply to other types of gold: 21-karat at Tk 222,491 per bhori, 18-karat at Tk 191,056 per bhori, and traditional gold at Tk 156,064 per bhori.

The association attributed the price hike to the rising cost of pure gold in the local market. Since July, the price of gold has been adjusted 98 times this year, with 48 increases and 49 decreases. The previous adjustment was made on July 31 when the price of 22-karat gold increased by Tk 2,216 per bhori.
