Gold Price Soars 176k Percent in 79 Years: What's Behind the Meteoric Rise
The price of gold has undergone significant changes since India gained independence in 1947. Initially, 10 grams of gold cost Rs 89, but today it costs a staggering Rs 157,145. This massive increase translates to an astonishing 176,467% rise over the past 79 years.
A closer look at the data reveals that the price of gold has not moved uniformly over the decades. The first two decades saw little change in the price, but from 1976 onwards, there was a marked surge in prices. The most significant acceleration occurred between 2016 and 2026, with a whopping 450% rise.
The global demand for gold has been influenced by various factors, including geopolitical tensions, central banks' buying activity, and the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decisions. The rising strength of the US dollar has also impacted the price of gold in international markets.
