Gold Price Volatility Ahead of Fed Decision
Gold prices have been affected by market expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike. As of September 16, spot gold is trading at $4,326.17 an ounce, up 0.79 percent from the previous day after falling to a six-week low on Tuesday.
The Fed's decision today could impact gold prices significantly. Markets are pricing in a 25 basis point increase, with CME FedWatch indicating a 85-91 percent confidence level, and Kalshi and Polymarket at around 81 percent. A rate hike would be the first since 2023.
The dot plot is considered more important than the decision itself, as it shows where committee members expect rates to go through 2027. A path showing three or more further hikes could break $4,250 and put $4,120 to $4,160 in play, while a single additional move would send gold to $4,422.
