Gold Price Volatility Reaches Decades-High Levels

The gold price has shown signs of recovery after Monday's heavy selloff, but the rebound faces a test before the outlook improves. The metal regained some ground since yesterday and its response to nearby resistance will determine whether the recovery continues.

This rebound comes as The Kobeissi Letter points out that gold futures have recorded 7 daily declines of at least 3.5% in 2026, the highest count since 2008 and already more than double the 3 comparable sessions recorded during 2025.

The historical chart provided by Bespoke Investment Group helps explain why an upward move alone may not be enough to confirm a change in direction. Gold is on track for its most volatile year since 1982, with 7 daily declines of at least 3.5% so far, below the 10 recorded during 1982 and the 8 recorded during 2008.
