Gold Prices Climb Above $4,400 Amid Weakening Dollar and Yields
The price of gold ticked higher on September 3, trading above $4,400 an ounce. This gain was largely driven by a weakening US dollar and Treasury yields.
Spot gold rose 0.4% to $4,405.70 per ounce, while spot silver increased 0.2% to trade above $65 an ounce.
The weakness in the US dollar and Treasury yields is making non-yielding assets like gold more appealing. A decline in Treasury yields reduces the opportunity cost of holding gold, while a weaker US dollar makes it cheaper for overseas buyers.
Market participants are now focused on upcoming US economic data releases, including jobless claims data due later on Thursday and employment and unemployment data due on Friday. These numbers could provide fresh signals on the strength of the US economy and influence expectations around the Federal Reserve's monetary policy outlook.
