Gold Prices Decline Globally Amid Ongoing Currency Debasement Concerns
Gold prices declined across major jewellery brands on Thursday, August 27, 2026. According to Prithviraj Kothari, managing director at RiddiSiddhi Bullions Ltd., and president of the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), gold and silver held firm this week due to ongoing currency debasement concerns.
The IBJA reports that 24K gold is trading at Rs 15,848 per gram, down from Rs 16,134 on Wednesday. 22K gold is priced at Rs 15,467 per gram, a decrease of Rs 280 from the previous day's rate.
Tanishq, Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Joyalukkas, and Kalyan Jewellers have also reduced their prices, with all four brands offering 22K gold jewellery for Rs 14,940 per gram across various cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Trivandrum, and Bengaluru.
Kothari notes that the domestic prices are correcting due to rupee strength from RBI intervention. The gold is consolidating between $4,585, $4,675 internationally, while silver mirrors this pattern, trading $67, $70 internationally and correcting to Rs 238,500 domestically.
