Gold Prices Drop on Raksha Bandhan Amid Silver Surge

On Raksha Bandhan, August 28, gold prices took a dip according to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA). The price of 10 grams of 24-carat gold decreased by ₹160 to ₹1.58 lakh.

The association also reported that silver prices have surged with a rise of ₹882 per kilogram, reaching ₹2.40 lakh. This marks a significant fluctuation in gold and silver prices this year.

Gold has become ₹29,000 more expensive so far in 2026 compared to last year. On December 31, 2025, the price of 10 grams of gold was at ₹1.33 lakh, which is now at ₹1.58 lakh.

The association advises consumers to cross-check prices from multiple sources and look for certified gold with a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) hallmark, as well as negotiate making charges when purchasing jewelry.
