Gold Prices Hold Steady Amidst Fluctuations, Await Central Bank Decisions
Gold prices have been fluctuating in recent sessions, but remain above the critical support level of $4,000 per ounce. The precious metal has shown signs of defensive demand, despite being under pressure from a strong US dollar and high bond interest rates.
The gold price has recovered somewhat from its previous low, but still cannot break through the resistance zone between $4,080 and $4,140 per ounce. Silver prices have also recovered, but remain below their own resistance zone of $59.23 to $60.76 per ounce.
A notable factor supporting gold prices is the decline in the yield of 10-year US Treasury bonds, which fell to about 4.68% after reaching an 18-month high. This decrease reduces the opportunity cost of holding non-performing assets like gold.
However, gold's upward momentum remains limited due to the strong US dollar index, which has remained near 101.47 points in recent sessions. Strong greenbacks make gold more expensive for buyers using other currencies.
The market is awaiting key decisions from major central banks, including the US Federal Reserve's interest rate management meeting next week. Investors will be closely watching the Fed's decision, as well as Q2 GDP growth figures and personal consumer price index data.
