Gold Prices Plummet on Interest Rate Anticipation and Strong Dollar
Global gold prices dropped by 0.2% on Wednesday to $4,345.55 per ounce amid anticipation of interest rate decisions from major central banks. This decline comes as investors expect the US Federal Reserve and other central banks to maintain high interest rates for an extended period to curb inflation.
The spot gold price fell slightly lower than the December delivery futures price, which rose by 0.2% to $4,383.10 per ounce. The strong US dollar also had a significant impact on gold prices, making it more expensive for holders of other currencies to purchase the metal.
Kyle Rodda, a senior financial market analyst at Capital.com, noted that short-term gold price fluctuations are heavily influenced by global oil price movements and Middle East developments. However, analysts emphasize that long-term structural factors supporting gold remain robust.
