Gold Prices Rebound Above $4,400 as USD Weakens
World gold prices rebounded on September 8 after a sharp drop, driven by a weakening US dollar and increased buying power. The precious metal surpassed the $4,400 per ounce mark as the Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index fell 0.1%, making gold more competitive for buyers holding other currencies.
The spot price of gold rose by 0.71% to $4,437.64 per ounce, while December gold futures contracts increased by 0.13% to $4,482.21 per ounce. Gold tends to move in the opposite direction of the greenback, so a weaker USD benefits gold.
The recent price movements have been volatile, with gold prices fluctuating within a narrow range around $4,400 per ounce since July. The market is currently betting 56.4% on the Fed's ability to raise interest rates at its meeting on September 16, which could be detrimental to gold due to its lack of yields.
Despite this, the medium-term outlook for gold remains supported by risk hedging needs in investment portfolios and continued buying activities by central banks.
