Gold Prices Skyrocket in Bangladesh After BAJUS Announcement
The Bangladesh Jewelers Association (BAJUS) announced an increase in gold prices for the local bullion market on Friday, July 31, 2026. The new prices took effect immediately.
The price of 22-carat gold per bhori has been increased by 2,216 taka, from 2,20,858 taka to 2,23,074 taka. Similarly, the price of 21-carat gold per bhori has been increased by 2,100 taka, from 2,10,943 taka to 2,13,043 taka.
The prices for 18 carat and traditional (Sonaton) gold have also gone up. 18-carat gold per bhori has increased by 1,750 taka, from 1,81,200 taka to 1,82,950 taka, while traditional (Sonaton) gold per bhori has been increased by 1,458 taka, from 1,48,016 taka to 1,49,474 taka.
Buyers must pay more than the set price when purchasing gold jewelry due to a 5% VAT and a minimum making charge of BDT 3,500 per bhori applied on top of the fixed price for selling gold ornaments.
