Meanwhile, silver prices have dropped from ₹2.35 lakh per kilogram to ₹2.29 lakh, a decrease of ₹6,536.

Looking at the year-to-date performance, gold has become ₹19,000 more expensive in 2026 compared to last year. On December 31st, 2025, 10 grams of gold cost ₹1.33 lakh, but it has since risen to ₹1.52 lakh. However, silver prices have taken a hit, falling from ₹2.30 lakh per kg on December 31st, 2025, to around ₹2.29 lakh.

The India Bullion and Jewellers Association advises buyers to be cautious when purchasing gold, suggesting that they only buy certified gold bearing the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) hallmark. The IBJA also recommends cross-checking the exact weight of the gold and its price on the day of purchase from multiple sources.
