Gold Prices Soar as FOMO and US Stimulus Fuel Rally
The gold price has taken another significant step forward in recent weeks, fueled by a combination of factors including the fear of missing out (FOMO) and the willingness of US authorities to push the envelope on debt-fueled economic stimulus.
According to FOREX.com, the five-week support at the $4k handle has led to a tonality shift in gold markets, with bulls taking a giant step forward over the past three weeks. The announcement of larger US Treasury buybacks was seen as a major catalyst for this move, and it could continue to drive prices higher.
The recent price action is also reflective of the ongoing debate around inflation and interest rates. Despite 175 basis points of softening in interest rates since February 2024, headline and core CPI have yet to print below the Fed's 2% target on an annualized basis. This has led some investors to question the effectiveness of monetary policy in addressing inflation concerns.
From a technical perspective, gold is now overbought on the daily chart, making it challenging for bulls to continue pushing prices higher. However, there are several key support levels that could be monitored for potential pullback scenarios, including the 4500-4524 zone and the 4435-4450 zone.
