Gold Prices Soar by ₹190 to ₹1.62 Lakh as Silver Slumps
The price of gold has increased by ₹190 to reach ₹1.62 lakh for 10 grams of 24-carat gold, according to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA). This marks a new high this year, with gold becoming costlier by ₹29 thousand since January 2026. On December 31, 2025, the price of 10g of gold was at ₹1.33 lakh.
Silver, on the other hand, has become cheaper by ₹1,945 to reach ₹2.43 lakh per kilogram. The prices of both gold and silver have been fluctuating throughout this year, with gold hitting an all-time high of ₹1.76 lakh and silver reaching ₹3.86 lakh on January 29.
Anindya Banerjee, Senior VP and Head of Commodity Research at Kotak Securities, believes that gold has the support of central banks around the world, including the RBI, which are continuously buying gold. He predicts that gold will continue to see an upward trend even in difficult conditions ahead, with the price potentially reaching ₹1.70 lakh by December.
The IBJA advises buyers to be cautious and check the authenticity of gold before making a purchase. They recommend buying certified gold with a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) hallmark, which includes an alphanumeric code such as AZ4524 that indicates the purity of the gold.
