Gold Prices Soar on Fed Rate Decision

Spot gold prices jumped more than 1% after the US Federal Reserve held benchmark interest rates steady. This sent the dollar and US Treasury yields lower.

The Fed left the federal funds rate in its current 3.5%-3.75% target range as expected, but three committee members voted to raise it further.

The move had a mixed effect on gold prices, which gained initially before paring some of their gains.
