Gold Prices Struggle Amid Inflation and Oil Pressures
Gold prices continue to face near-term downside risks, even as the longer-term outlook remains bullish. Despite a brief rally following a weaker-than-expected US jobs report, gold has struggled to maintain momentum, with inflation and oil prices keeping pressure on the metal.
The Federal Reserve's primary focus on inflation means that even softer employment data is unlikely to prompt aggressive rate cuts. This has limited gold's upside potential, especially as the US dollar has shown resilience and bond yields remain elevated due to high oil prices.
Technically, gold remains vulnerable, with key support levels around $4,100 - $4,120. A break below this zone could see the metal test the psychologically important $4,000 level. On the upside, reclaiming the $4,220 - $4,235 area would be needed to trigger a more meaningful rally.
Despite the near-term challenges, the longer-term case for gold remains strong, supported by central bank demand and concerns over fiscal sustainability. If stress in the US bond market intensifies, gold could benefit as investors seek alternative stores of value.
