Gold prices surged by approximately 10% in August, setting the stage for its largest monthly gain since January. However, investors have become more cautious this time around compared to the start of the year.

The catalyst behind this rally was U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent's announcement of a significant increase in long-term Treasury bond purchases. This move weakened the U.S. dollar, boosting gold and its digital alternative, Bitcoin.

According to Aakash Doshi, Head of Global Gold and Metals Strategy at State Street Investment Management, 'Investors are re-establishing long positions in gold through ETF demand and the derivatives market.' The rally this month has been far more orderly than the price volatility seen in January.
