Gold Prices Surge to ₹1.56 Lakh in India Amid Global Safe-Haven Demand
Gold prices in India rose on Monday, August 17, as domestic bullion prices moved higher due to global gold finding support from safe-haven demand and expectations around the US Federal Reserve's next interest rate decision. The latest benchmark showed 24K gold at ₹1,55,660 per 10 grams, while 22K gold stood at ₹1,42,700 per 10 grams and 18K gold at ₹1,16,760 per 10 grams. MCX gold also traded above ₹1.55 lakh per 10 grams in early deals.
The prices of gold moved higher as global gold prices strengthened, with a weaker US dollar and changing expectations around Federal Reserve policy supporting demand for bullion. The three purity categories gained ₹53, ₹50, and ₹41 per gram, respectively, from the previous quoted rates. On a 10-gram basis, that comes to ₹1,55,660 for 24K, ₹1,42,700 for 22K, and ₹1,16,760 for 18K gold.
The movement reflected continued demand for the safe-haven asset amid geopolitical uncertainty and expectations around US monetary policy. International spot gold also remained firm, trading around $4,395 per ounce. The key MCX and global bullion figures are: MCX Gold at ₹1,55,170 per 10 grams, up 0.23% in early trade, MCX Gold Intraday High at ₹1,56,155 per 10 grams, Spot Gold around $4,395 per ounce.
