Gold Prices Test $4,350 Support Amid Inflation Fears
Gold prices continued their downward trend in early September, testing support around $4,350 per ounce after a strong monthly gain. According to Ole Hansen, Head of Commodity Strategy at Saxo Bank, gold is facing headwinds due to inflation concerns and rising commodity costs.
The decline in gold began on Friday following Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's remarks at the Jackson Hole Symposium, where he reaffirmed the central bank's commitment to reducing inflation to its 2% target. This led to elevated expectations for short-term rates, higher real and nominal yields, and a firmer U.S. dollar.
Hansen noted that gold has dropped more than 4% since Friday, with silver also experiencing significant losses. However, he expressed doubt that this focus would interrupt the longer-term upward trajectory supported by mounting government debt and concerns over currency debasement.
