Spot gold and silver prices declined in late U.S. trading Thursday as elevated Treasury yields and a firmer U.S. dollar kept pressure on non-yielding metals.

The spot price of gold fell 0.26% to $4,274.70 an ounce, while spot silver dropped 1.02% to $63.670 per ounce.

North American equities finished flat after a volatile session, with the S&P 500 falling less than 0.1% to 7,704.13 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average declining 0.3% to 51,349.98.

The Strait of Hormuz situation remains a direct oil-market shock and an indirect gold-market headwind, with talks producing little visible progress and Iran and the U.S. remaining divided over conditions for ending the conflict.
