Gold Prices Volatile as Fed Decision and Geopolitics Take Center Stage
Gold prices continued to fluctuate on July 30th as investors monitored monetary policy decisions from the US Federal Reserve and reactions to emerging geopolitical risks in the Middle East. Despite the Fed's decision to keep interest rates at 3.50%-3.75%, market players remained cautious, anticipating possible future rate increases.
The price of gold in the spot market reached an intraday high of $4,116 per ounce before retracing some gains to settle at $4,080 per ounce. The safe-haven attraction of gold remains robust due to ongoing political tensions and anticipation of rising interest rates, which restricts further upside movement.
In contrast, India's gold prices remained firm, with August gold futures trading at ₹1,41,600 per 10 grams on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). Central banks worldwide continue to purchase significant amounts of gold, with the World Gold Council noting a record-high quarterly acquisition of 289 tonnes in Q2 2026.
