Gold Rallies Above $4,300 as Traders Await Fed Rate Decision
Gold prices rebounded to over $4,300 per ounce on Tuesday, as investors positioned ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy announcement. The central bank is widely expected to deliver another rate increase, with a 92.4 percent probability of at least a quarter-point hike.
The precious metal's resilience came despite spot bullion prices climbing only 0.8 percent to $4,328.39 per ounce, while US gold futures for December delivery slipped 0.2 percent to $4,341.70 per ounce.
Market analysts believe the rate decision itself may be less consequential than the tone Fed Chair Kevin Warsh strikes in his post-meeting press conference. A hawkish message could drag gold prices lower, while a more dovish tone would help the precious metal recover further.
The geopolitical backdrop remains tense, with Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis launching fresh attacks on Saudi Arabia and oil prices rising due to supply disruption concerns.
US 10-year Treasury yields touched 5 percent for the first time since October 2023, adding to the complex picture. Commerzbank noted that gold's resilience under current conditions is striking, with fiscal concerns reflected in elevated long-term bond yields and rising political risks in the United States potentially underpinning the metal's defensive appeal.
