Gold Rebounds on Softer Data, Cools October Fed Hike Bets
Gold prices rebounded in late U.S. trading Tuesday as softer labor-market and consumer-confidence data cooled bets for an October Fed rate hike.
The spot gold price rose 1.42% to $4,172.40 an ounce, while the spot silver price increased by 1.23% to $61.270.
North American equities closed modestly lower, with the S&P 500 falling 0.2%, as rising long-term yields offset support from softer data and lower oil prices.
Market positioning turned less hawkish after August JOLTS job openings fell short of expectations, while September consumer confidence dropped to its lowest reading since 2014.
