Gold Remains Resilient Despite Fed Rate Hike
Nomi Prins, an author and international political economy analyst, recently discussed the impact of a 25 basis point interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve on gold prices. Despite the hike, Prins argued that gold's long-term outlook remains strong due to its durable underlying demand.
The Fed's move was influenced by rising oil prices above $100 per barrel, which pushed inflation pressure higher. However, Prins noted that the central bank cannot produce oil or control energy costs through interest rates alone.
Central banks have been buying gold at a record pace in recent months, with the People's Bank of China holding Treasury bonds at all-time lows while continuing to accumulate gold reserves. This demand is driven by gold's role as a reserve asset, diversification tool, and hedge against physical supply scarcity.
