Gold Sees Surge in Demand as Global Uncertainty Continues
LHGS Gold, a Thailand-based gold specialist, notes that global uncertainty has led to renewed interest in safe-haven assets like gold. As investors respond to ongoing geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty, they are turning to gold as a traditional store of value.
According to the World Gold Council, global gold demand reached 1,206 tonnes during the first quarter of 2025, with a total value of US$111 billion. Central banks purchased 244 tonnes of gold during the same period, continuing a trend in which official-sector purchases have exceeded 1,000 tonnes annually for three consecutive years.
The price of spot gold climbed above US$3,500 per ounce in 2025, reaching historic highs as investors responded to geopolitical developments and changing interest-rate expectations. The investment market has mirrored these trends, with total investment demand increasing by more than 170% year-over-year in the first quarter of 2025.
