The price of gas in Central Illinois has increased by as much as 60 cents in recent weeks due to rising oil prices, according to a report by GasBuddy. The average price of regular gas nationwide reached $4.06 on Monday, with Illinois' average at $4.23.

Patrick De Haan, Head of Petroleum Analysis, attributed the increase to 'continued escalations between the U.S. and Iran, renewed Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, and fresh Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries'. He also noted that a weekend pullback in hostilities offered some relief.

In Champaign-Urbana, the average price of gas rose by 17 cents in the last week, with prices ranging from $3.89 to $4.39 across various cities and towns.
