Gold set to surge to $5,013 an ounce within a year
The gold industry anticipates a significant price surge over the next year, with delegates at the London Bullion Market Association’s (LBMA) annual conference in Sorrento, Italy, predicting a rise to $5,013 per troy ounce. This forecast marks a substantial increase from the current price of $4,170. Despite a 3% decline in gold’s value this year, driven by expectations of prolonged high interest rates and the Iran war, the precious metal saw a remarkable 64% jump in 2025, its largest yearly gain since 1979, and reached a record high of $5,595 in January. A year ago, the same conference projected gold would reach around $4,980 by now.
The LBMA’s annual poll also revealed optimistic predictions for other precious metals. Silver prices are expected to climb to $97 per ounce within a year, up from the current $61. Silver has dropped 14% this year following a 147% surge in 2025. Platinum and palladium are forecast to rise to $1,914 and $1,415 per ounce, respectively, from their current levels of $1,706 and $1,174. Both metals have seen declines this year, with platinum down 17% and palladium down 28%.
