Gold Soars as Bitcoin Sinks Amid Regulatory Uncertainty and Geopolitical Tensions
Gold and Bitcoin moved in opposite directions on Wednesday as investors responded to geopolitical tensions, high bond yields, and regulatory uncertainty. Spot gold rose by 0.8% to $4,328 an ounce after hitting a one-month low on Monday, while Bitcoin fell by over 3% to around $75,000.
The strong performance of gold was driven by its traditional safe-haven status, as well as concerns about government debt and fiscal stability. However, the price increase was limited by high Treasury yields and a strong U.S. dollar. In contrast, Bitcoin's decline was attributed to regulatory uncertainty, with the failure of the Clarity Act in the U.S. Senate weighing on sentiment.
The gold-to-Bitcoin ratio has been trading within a descending channel for several years, but has recently broken above the resistance level of 0.08. This suggests that gold is outperforming Bitcoin, and a break below 0.05 could weaken the relative recovery in gold and expose it to further downside.
The technical analysis of Bitcoin shows that the price has hit key resistance at $82,000 and is now correcting lower. However, the long-term support level between $60,000 and $65,000 remains intact, and a break below this level could open the way for further downside toward $49,100.
