Gold Soars as Dollar Weakens Ahead of Federal Reserve Decision
Gold prices rose by 1.2% to $4,346 per ounce on Wednesday as the dollar weakened ahead of the Federal Reserve's rate decision. The price of gold had fallen to a one-month low earlier in the week.
The weaker dollar made dollar-priced metals more affordable for overseas buyers, contributing to the increase in gold prices. Oil prices also retreated from their two-day rally, which further boosted gold's value.
Bitcoin hovered around $76,000 after dropping below $75,000 earlier in the day. The cryptocurrency market was impacted by the failure of the CLARITY Act, a landmark crypto market structure bill, to gain enough votes to advance on Tuesday.
Dean Chen, a market analyst at Bitunix, noted that markets are shifting their focus beyond the Fed's rate decision and are instead looking at the policy outlook and long-term Treasury yields. He stated that 'markets are no longer pricing simply the near-term policy rate; they are reassessing the outlook for inflation, fiscal conditions and capital demand over the next several years.'
Chen pointed out that the key market signal will be whether long-term Treasury yields stabilize following the Fed's decision. Elevated yields could indicate that investors are independently pricing longer-term inflation and fiscal risks, while lower or more stable yields could suggest greater confidence in monetary policy.
