Gold Soars as US-Iran Tensions Ease, Oil Prices Plummet
Gold prices rose by over 1% on Monday as tensions between the US and Iran eased, leading to lower oil prices and decreased inflation concerns. This shift in market sentiment sent gold soaring to $4,110.56 per ounce, according to spot prices.
The relaxation of hostilities between the two nations came after a senior Iranian official announced that their country would halt its attacks if the US does the same. The move was seen as a sign of de-escalation, which in turn led to a decline in oil prices by over 4% for the day.
Despite gold's reputation as an inflation hedge, higher interest rates have made it less attractive, causing its price to be influenced by oil prices and geopolitical headlines. However, market analyst Tim Waterer remains 'constructively bullish' on gold in the long term, citing its volatility and reliance on durable peace.
