Gold Surges 9.7%, Agricultural Products Skyrocket Amid Global Asset Divergence
Global assets diverged significantly in August, according to Deutsche Bank's latest monthly review. Geopolitical blockades and extreme weather boosted inflation expectations, while fiscal intervention sparked concerns over 'financial repression,' driving sharp rallies in gold, silver, and agricultural products.
The U.S. dollar weakened for the second consecutive month as investors sought safe-havens. Gold surged 9.7% to lead the gains, closing at $4,437 per ounce, while silver soared 15.6% to close at $66.58 per ounce.
Agricultural commodities also experienced a broad-based surge, with corn futures rising 16.8%, wheat climbing 18.3%, and sugar prices soaring 21.5%. This reflects both real-time supply-side disruptions and the market's forward pricing of uncertainty regarding future food supplies.
