Gold Under Pressure as Market Awaits Fed Minutes
The gold price has been under pressure below $4,200 as investors await the release of Federal Reserve meeting minutes on July 8. The precious metal's recent rally was fueled by weaker-than-expected U.S. non-farm payrolls data, which reinforced the view that the labor market is cooling and reduced expectations for further Fed rate hikes.
However, the bullish impact of the payrolls data has largely been priced in, causing gold prices to fluctuate near $4,140. The rebound in the U.S. dollar index also put pressure on dollar-denominated gold, weighing on its price.
The pullback in oil prices is indirectly improving the macroeconomic environment for gold, as falling energy prices ease market concerns over imported inflation. If oil prices stop driving up inflation, the likelihood of the Fed continuing to pursue aggressive policy measures will decrease.
