Gold's $4,030 Tightrope: Interest Rates Trump Geopolitics
Gold prices are hovering at $4,030 per troy ounce on the European spot market, just shy of the psychologically significant $4,000 threshold. Despite recent geopolitical tensions, investors are pulling out of gold due to rising bond yields and an increasingly attractive real yield environment.
The surge in US Treasury yields to 4.71 percent is a major factor behind gold's decline. The interest rate outlook has become the dominant driver for gold, overshadowing even dramatic geopolitical developments.
Central banks, however, remain committed to accumulating gold reserves. According to a World Gold Council survey, 89 percent of central banks expect to increase their gold holdings further, with 45 percent actively planning to expand their reserves.
