Grain and Livestock Futures Markets Start August on a Weak Note
The grain and livestock futures markets began August on a sluggish note, with row crop futures experiencing a bearish week to close July. According to DTN's Quick Takes, December corn is down 2 1/4 cents, while November soybeans are down 2 cents. The wheat market also saw declines, with September KC wheat down 4 cents, September Chicago wheat down 3 3/4 cents, and September MIAX Minneapolis wheat down 1 3/4 cents. Outside of commodities, crude oil futures were lower, down $3.86, while Dow Jones futures rose by 150 points.
The U.S. Dollar Index was down 0.16, and December gold saw an increase of $25.90. Weather patterns played a role in the market's performance, with rainfall totals over the weekend providing decent conditions for the heart of the U.S. Grain Belt. However, areas in the far west and east of the region missed out on this precipitation.
Looking ahead to next week's forecast, cooler temperatures are expected to dominate the central to eastern belt, potentially keeping weather bullishness subdued. The ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Iran remains a point of interest for market watchers, with the recent brief pause in fighting proving short-lived.
