Grain Futures Soar as Soybeans Lead Charge Higher
Grain futures closed sharply higher on Wednesday, with gains across corn, soybeans, and wheat. The market saw strength in all three major grain commodities, with soybeans leading the charge.
Soybean prices surged, with September beans gaining 21-and-a-half cents to close at 12.22-and-a-quarter. November soybeans climbed 20 cents to finish at 12.37-and-a-quarter. January soybean futures added 19-and-three-quarter cents, while soybean meal was also higher.
Corn prices followed suit, with September corn finishing at 4.73, up 9-and-three-quarter cents. December corn gained 10 cents to close at 4.98. March corn added 9-and-three-quarter cents to finish at 5.13-and-a-half.
Wheat futures also rose, with September Chicago wheat gaining 15-and-three-quarter cents to 6.80-and-a-quarter. December Chicago wheat was up 16-and-a-quarter at 6.97-and-a-half. Kansas City wheat saw even stronger gains, with September rising 18-and-a-quarter cents to 7.62.
The livestock market finished mixed on Wednesday, with heavy selling in the cattle markets and lean hogs moving higher. Live cattle futures dropped across the board, while feeder cattle took the biggest hit due to higher grain prices.
