Grain Market Sees Volatile Price Fluctuations Amid Global Supply Concerns
The Matif wheat price for December reached a peak of €256.75/t on September 2, but had fallen to €247.25/t by Tuesday. Corn was also down, while rapeseed prices rose.
However, the market rebounded on Wednesday, with Matif wheat for November climbing back up to €249.75/t, and corn and oilseed rape prices increasing as well.
The focus remains on several key factors: the potential for grain exports from the Black Sea and Middle East, the threat of El Nino on global supplies, and lower maize stocks in Europe.
El Nino's impact is uncertain, with some experts predicting it could be one of the worst events in 150 years. Droughts in the southern hemisphere may affect corn, maize, and soybean production, particularly in Europe where maize yields have already been impacted by drought.
