Grain Markets End Day in Mixed Fashion Amid Selloff Concerns
The grain market ended the day in mixed fashion on Thursday, with corn and wheat showing modest gains while soybeans remained under pressure.
Corn futures closed between a half to one and a half cents higher after stabilizing following Wednesday's sharp USDA-driven selloff. However, the large September 1 corn stocks figure continues to impact prices and is likely to remain a source of resistance in the market.
Soybeans finished between seven to nine cents lower due to uncertainty surrounding Chinese demand and the continued 10% retaliatory tariff on U.S. soybeans. Traders are also weighing China's commitment to purchase at least 25 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans annually through 2028 against competition from South American supplies.
The wheat market rebounded following Wednesday's sharp losses, with futures ending between 3¾ and seven cents higher due to short covering and bargain buying after the recent decline.
