Grain Prices Hang in Balance Ahead of Trump-Xi Meeting
International grain prices remain in a state of limbo due to ongoing developments in various regions. Despite recent fluctuations, UK November 2026 wheat futures closed at £209.75/t for the trading week that ended September 18.
The Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board (AHDB) notes that nearby US wheat and maize futures fell by 1.5% and 0.5% respectively week-on-week. Nearby Paris milling wheat prices, however, gained 0.2%.
The Black Sea region continues to be a significant factor in grain market volatility. Traders are balancing the impact of Russian and Ukrainian attacks against hopes for improved export flows due to a Turkish-backed truce on commercial shipping.
French maize conditions have deteriorated further, with just 23% of the crop rated good or excellent by September 14. However, the projected 42% year-on-year production decline is largely priced into the market.
