Grain Prices Juggle Weather, Wheat Rally, and China Demand
Grain market prices are being influenced by multiple factors according to Tommy Grisafi, a commodity broker at Ag Bull Trading. Variable weather conditions have been impacting grain prices due to 'wide temperatures' and 'hot temperatures', with some areas receiving too much rain while others are experiencing drought.
The wheat market is also seeing an increase in prices due to geopolitical tensions between Russia and Ukraine, combined with the Midwest's short crop, Grisafi said. This has created an 'explosive wheat market'. He noted that recent purchasing activity from China led to a run-up in soybean futures but the trend was reversed after the near-term weather forecast pulled soybeans sharply lower on Wednesday.
Grisafi expressed his concerns about the grain market, stating that there are several factors at play and it's difficult to predict what will happen next. The recent purchasing activity from China has had an impact on the soybean market, but Grisafi notes that a fair amount of soybeans off the combine have already been priced.
