Grain Prices Soar Amid Ukraine-Russia Conflict
The global agricultural market has seen significant price increases for wheat, soybeans, and cotton in recent days. The wheat market hit contract highs for a second day due to fund buying and increased prices resulting from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and Russia.
According to Shawn Hackett of Hackett Financial Advisors, the market is attempting to factor in the reduced exports from these countries. He believes that if supplies remain low going into September, the price increase will be even more substantial.
The estimated loss of Black Sea wheat exports stands at around 50%. This would mean a significant reduction in global supply and could lead to increased prices for wheat worldwide.
In contrast, corn futures have corrected from their recent highs. Hackett attributes this to end-of-month profit taking and some farmer selling. However, he believes that the funds will continue to buy into the market as they see higher prices ahead.
