Grains, Livestock Futures Markets Open with Mixed Signals
Futures markets for grains and livestock opened Thursday morning with some mixed signals. December corn is trading down 3 cents at $4.32, while November soybeans are down 1 3/4 cents per bushel. The situation is more subdued on the wheat front, with December KC wheat down 10 1/2 cents, December Chicago wheat down 11 3/4 cents, and December MIAX Minneapolis wheat down 6 1/2 cents.
Crude oil prices also took a hit, dropping $1.87 per barrel to open the day's session. However, futures for Dow Jones were up 400 points, with the U.S. Dollar Index falling by just 0.14 and December gold rising $19.10.
In the livestock sector, cattle contracts are showing some recovery after Wednesday's weak close, trading mildly higher into Thursday's open. The current prices for December live cattle stand at $220.45, while October feeder cattle is up $0.28 to $329.925.
