Gran Rosario Surpasses New Orleans as World's Largest Grain Export Hub
Argentina's Gran Rosario complex has surpassed New Orleans as the world's largest grain export hub, shipping 75.7 million tonnes of grain, oils, meals, and by-products in 2025. The ranking, published by the Rosario Exchange on May 29, 2026, reverses the order shown in most reference tables.
The Gran Rosario complex works similarly to New Orleans, with roughly 70-80% of Argentine grain, oilseed, oil, and by-product exports being loaded onto barges along the Paraná River. Argentina's wheat year runs until November 2026, and the country has set a new export program for 2025/26 at 105.1 million tonnes of grains, oilseeds, oils, and by-products.
Ukraine's grain season closed lower in 2025/26, with 36.86 million tonnes of grain and pulses shipped, down 9.27% from the previous season. The Danube ports are projected to handle roughly 5 million tonnes in 2026, a fall of about 44% against 2025.
Rouen's terminals shipped 8.4 million tonnes of grain in the campaign ending June 30, 2026, up 61% from the previous year's 5.2 million tonnes. The port handles more than half of France's seaborne grain shipments, an unusual concentration for a country with several entries on the list of the biggest ports in Europe.
